Could you be a litter hero?
Eastleigh supports the Great British Spring Clean
Communities in Eastleigh Borough are being encouraged to become litter heroes and help to give their local area a spring clean as part of a national tidy-up campaign.
The Great British Spring Clean is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and will be held across the country from 20 March to 13 April.
Last year residents organised litter picks in Hamble, West End, Hedge End, Boyatt Wood and Eastleigh, clearing bags and bags of rubbish off the streets throughout the campaign.
Litter spoils our environment and can cause harm to wildlife, both on land and when it makes its way into the ocean. It also costs the taxpayers money to clear away. It is also completely avoidable if people use public bins or take their rubbish home with them.
How do I get involved?
People can register on the Great British Spring Clean website to host a clean-up event, or find an existing one to join. Events are already planned around Chandlers Ford, Bishopstoke and Hamble.
There are three ways you can get involved:
- Sign up to host a clean-up or log in to My Dashboard if you've signed up before
- Join a clean-up near you
- Pledge your support
How can we support your clean-up?
As part of our commitment to making Eastleigh a greener, cleaner Borough, we are able to loan litter pickers to groups and supply free rubbish bags. Groups taking part can also liaise with our Street Scene team to arrange for the litter they have gathered to be collected and disposed of.
