Celebrating local heroes in National Volunteer's Week
During this year's National Volunteer's Week we're celebrating individuals and groups who have given their time to help others in their local community during the pandemic.
We have already heard many stories of kindness, creativity and hope, but there is still time to submit stories and details of people you think deserve to be one of our Local Heroes, the closing date for nominations is June 1.
Acts of kindness such as providing essential supplies for those shielding or self-isolating, keeping open spaces accessible for others or checking in on somebody living on their own have continued to make a huge difference to peoples lives. There has never been a more important time to take care of the health and wellbeing of our community which is why we want to recognise those that have and are contributing to that.
To help celebrate these amazing heroes our Arts and Culture team worked with local artists to create this touching video tribute. Poetry collective ‘Ghost River’ were commissioned to write a poem based on the nominees, which was then recorded by performer Anna Carr and animated by Corinne Pollock. To make it extra special, we also included additional voices from members of the Eastleigh community – including some of those who nominated someone to be a hero.
There is still time to nominate a local hero, whether that is an individual or an organisation/group, please complete the form by 7 June.
