Borough to stage the first ever World Test Championship final
The Borough of Eastleigh will stage the first ever World Test Championship final when the Indian and New Zealand cricket teams play for the title at the Ageas Bowl from 18 to 22 June.
The Ageas Bowl has already staged men’s international cricket last summer during the Coronavirus pandemic. It was one of only two selected to host, along with Emirates Old Trafford, due to both venues having on-site hotel facilities. This provided a big advantage for teams operating in a bio-secure environment during the Covid-19 pandemic with no daily travel required to and from the ground for the teams.
Council Leader Keith House said, “I’m thrilled and delighted that the Ageas Bowl has been selected for the first ever World Test Championship final. It will be great to welcome the players, officials, media and hopefully some fans to the borough to enjoy the prestigious and world class cricket venue that is the Ageas Bowl.”
He added, “I’m pleased that our borough will be the focus of the cricketing world for these five days and I’m sure that the superb playing and training facilities will provide both teams with the best opportunity to safely prepare for this prestigious final.”
