Borough gets ready to remember
The Borough is set to unite with the nation to honour those who have fallen in times of conflict. Services will be taking place throughout the Borough of Eastleigh on Sunday 14 November 2021 to remember those who gave their lives in two world wars and all other conflicts across the world.
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Cynthia Garton will be attending the morning service at the War Memorial, Leigh Road Recreation Ground whilst Deputy Mayor Cllr Adam Manning will be attending the morning service at St Edwards Church, Netley Abbey. The Mayor will also be attending the service at the Military Cemetery, Royal Victoria Country Park at 3pm in the afternoon.
The Council will again be supporting the Royal British Legion’s call for the observance of the Two Minute Silence at 11.00am on Thursday 11 November when those who gave their lives in two world wars and over seventy other conflicts, will be remembered. The ceremony is open to all and will be hosted by the Mayor, Councillor Cynthia Garton at The War Memorial in Leigh Road Recreation Ground, Eastleigh.
A number of road closures will be in force during the Sunday services and parades across the borough:
Botley
Closed: High Street, from its junction with Mortimers Road to its junction with Winchester Street
From: 10:45am – 11.15am
Eastleigh
Closed: Mitchell Road and heading through Wells Place, Desborough Road, Leigh Road. One parade between 10.00am and 11.45am as required – closures in place as parade passes. High Street from Leigh Road to its junction with Wells Place will also be closed.
Fair Oak & Horton Heath
Closed: Fair Oak Road (including The Square) between its junctions with Botley Road and Summerlands Road; and B3354 Botley Road and Winchester Road between Mortimers Lane and its junction with Eastleigh Road. between 10.30am and 12noon as required –closures in place as parade passes
Hedge End
Closed: St Johns Road, between its junctions with Bursledon Road and Alexandra Road
From: 10.00am to 12.30pm
Netley Abbey
Closed: Victoria Road entire length from Grange Road to St Edwards Church
From: 10 am to 10.45am
West End
Closed: High Street, West End from its junction with Lower New Road and Upper New Road to its junction with Moorgreen Road, West End Road is closed from High St to New Road and St James Road from High Street to Woodlea Gardens
From: 10.30am to 11.30am
Two other services are taking place without road closures at
Chandler’s Ford – service at St Boniface Church, Hursley Road
Netley Abbey - service at Military Cemetery, Royal Victoria Country Park at 3pm
