Borough congratulates Eastleigh’s ‘Golden’ Paralympian
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Cynthia Garton hosted a reception to congratulate Eastleigh Paralympian David Smith MBE who won his third Boccia gold medal at Tokyo this summer.
David defended his BC1 individual Paralympic Boccia title with a thrilling victory to secure his second individual gold medal to add to his team gold medal.
When asked about his success David said, “Winning gold in Tokyo was far more rewarding as I felt much more relaxed and ‘bullet proof’ when compared to Rio in 2016 which was far more of a struggle. However undoubtedly my proudest moment from Tokyo was carrying the GB flag at the closing ceremony.”
Mayor of Eastleigh Cllr Cynthia Garton said, “I was honoured, on behalf of the Borough, to host a reception to congratulate and recognise David’s fantastic achievements. David’s efforts, determination and achievements in Boccia are an inspiration to us all and I wish him every success in the future.”
David now goes back to Swansea and more training as he prepares for the European championships in November.
