Boorley Park’s Seated In Nature public art teaser
We get a sneak peek at the contemporary seating designs for green spaces in Hedge End, West End and Botley.
Artist, Nicola Henshaw has been commissioned to sculpt special carved oak benches, designed through a co-creation process with residents in Botley, Hedge End and West End.
As part of the project, Nicola asked the community to help shape benches themed on the past, present and future.
Lunch clubs at the 2000 Centre in Hedge End were invited to share their memories of life during and after the war for Our Past: their ideas including milk bottles, a ration book and a gas mask feature in one of the final designs. Botley Primary School children mapped their favourite places for Our Present, celebrating their love of cycling and walking in the woods and along the River Hamble. Young people from Deer Park School, Wildern School and Boorley Green Youth Club also contributed their inspiring vision of Our Future: living in harmony with nature and our neighbours, including some from outer space!
The Commission is funded from Developer’s Contributions for Public Art, to be used within the Local Area.
