Back online as public Wi-Fi arrives for Eastleigh town centre visitors
Eastleigh Town Centre Wi-Fi is being upgraded and made publicly available to allow for faster and secure connections in this retail and community hub.
The network upgrade will allow for a public Wi-Fi network to be made available for local visitors to use for free, thanks to recently agreed funding by the Eastleigh Local Area Committee. The town centre footfall counters are also integrated into the scheme.
Funding from the Office of the Police Crime Commissioner and the Borough Council has helped develop and fund a new modern CCTV system which will be installed this spring. This includes an upgrade to the existing secure Wi-Fi network and has helped keep costs down by enabling the CCTV system to be updated in the future if needed.
This project has been managed in partnership with the Eastleigh BID and Eastleigh Town Council.
To access it, simply find Eastleigh Town Centre Wi-Fi in the list of available networks on your phone or mobile device and set up an account.
Chair of the Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Councillor Alex Bourne, said: “Introducing free Wi-Fi will further establish Eastleigh Town Centre as an attractive retail and community destination further underpinning the Together We Make Eastleigh project work taking place. Working with the BID and other partners, we are always keen to support our businesses and provide a better experience for town centre visitors who, I am sure, will welcome this initiative.”
