Cabinet opts for Boorley Green site
Eastleigh’s Cabinet will be asking for plans
to be worked up to include the Boorley Green site as the preferred
location for a greenfield development of around 1,400 homes in its
draft local plan among other sites in the borough.
Cabinet considered the result of a recent
Housing Options survey that gave residents of every household in
the borough the chance to comment on two possible locations for
greenfield housing development. The total number of survey
responses was 1786 with 864 in favour of the Allington Lane site
and 922 in favour of Boorley Green as the preferred
option.
Leader of the Council Keith House says “Views
of local people are really important to us and we were pleased to
get so many comments and responses to the survey. We have
asked for the Boorley Green option to be worked up as this will
have less environmental impact, saves more of the countryside in
the long term and also gives the potential to achieve the
long-sought Botley bypass.” He added “with a growing
population and people living longer we have to make plans for
enough homes for local people to live their
lives”
The draft local plan, which sets out a vision
for the borough over the next 18 years, will be considered by
Cabinet in October 2011. If the plan is approved a full
public consultation programme will begin on all aspects in the
draft local plan that as well as housing will include policies and
proposals on for example employment, recreation and transport
links. The consultation will begin early in November and continue
for the rest of the year until the end of December 2011. Once
the consultation period has finished, Council officers will give
careful consideration to all representations and comments that are
received and a revised version of the plan will be produced and
considered by Council later in
2012
