Find out more about your communal recycling and waste bin collections

Your flat has a dedicated bin store for the sole use of residents.  Your bin store has a recycling bin, a glass recycling bin and a household waste bin.  What you can recycle in each bin is explained below.

Please note that communal recycling bins containing incorrect material can not be emptied and a charge will be made for emptying recycling bins that contain non-recyclable material.

Your collection day

Your communal recycling bin is collected fortnightly 

 

What you can put in your green recycling bin:

  • Paper - most paper can be recycled, but make sure any plastic wrapping around magazines and junk mail is removed
    • Newspapers
    • Magazines
    • Junk mail
    • Greeting cards without glitter 
    • Envelopes (you can leave the plastic windows in)
    • Yellow Pages
    • Phone books and telephone directories
  • Cardboard - cardboard can be placed in your bin, if it's too big, please flatten and leave beside your bin to be recycled
    • Cereal boxes
    • Food boxes
    • Kitchen and toilet roll tubes
    • Corrugated card
    • Boxes
    • Packaging
  • Food tins, drink cans and aerosols - please empty before recycling 
    • Food and soup tins
    • Pet food tins
    • Drinks cans
    • Sweet and biscuit tins
    • Air freshener aerosols
    • Household cleaning product aerosols (non-hazardous)
    • Deodorant aerosols
  • Plastic bottles - any bottle shaped plastic, but no other type. Please remove all tops and put in your black bin
    • Milk bottles
    • Fizzy drink bottles
    • Cordial and juice bottles
    • Cleaning product bottles
    • Fabric conditioner bottles
    • Bleach bottles
    • Trigger spray bottles
    • Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles 

What you can’t put in your recycling bin:

  • Drinks Cartons (tetrapaks)
  • Shredded paper
  •  Wrapping paper
  • Carrier bags / lack Bags
  • Plastic Packaging (yoghurt pots/polystyrene)

These items can be disposed of in your black communal household waste bin.


Your communal glass bin

Your glass bottles and jars are collected from your bin store every month.  In your glass bin you can recycle all your glass bottles and jars; from glass bottles of any kind to glass jam and sauce jars.

Your black, communal household waste bin

Your communal household waste bin is for household waste that cannot be recycled, it may include the following:

  • Cling film, polystyrene, crisp packets, plastic packaging.
  • Sanitary products, nappies (double wrap to avoid odours),
  • Cat litter

We do not accept the following in your communal household waste bin:

  • Bricks or rubble or soil,
  • Large items i.e. furniture, electrical goods
  • Garden waste or hot ashes

If any items from the above list are found in your communal household waste bin, our collection crews will be unable to empty the bin.  You can take the items above at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre 

Please make sure that all your waste is contained within a bin with the lid closed.  Waste left outside of the bin store may be classified as fly-tipping.
