Your Black Household Waste Bin
Your black bin is collected fortnightly. We will collect your household bin together with your food waste bin one week and your green recycling bin and food waste bin the next week.
Your black bin is for any household waste that cannot be recycled, and should not contain very much after you have removed your food waste and other recycling, but may include the following:
Polystyrene / Plastic packaging
Sanitary products / Nappies (double wrap to avoid odours)
Please be aware we do not accept the following in your black bin:
Large items i.e. furniture, Large Electrical items
Garden Waste, Car Batteries, Hot Ash, Paint Cans
If any items from the above list are found in your black bin, our collection crews will be unable to empty the bin. You can dispose of the items above at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre, there are four in the Borough.
In accordance with Eastleigh Borough Council's Domestic Waste and Recycling Policy, waste presented for collection must be contained within your bin with the lid closed. Any bins where the lid does not close will not be collected. Any waste left on the ground or on top of the bin, will also not be collected.
Your Collection Day
Your black bin must be presented at the edge of your property/pavement by 6.30am on the day of collection, and be visible for the collection crews. Your collection time may vary on the day of collection.
Please refer to your annual recycling and waste collection calendar for all of your collection dates, or simply type in your postcode in to the property search to find your collection day.
You can now print your annual recycling and waste collection calendar online, by typing your postcode in to the property search and clicking on the link to your calendar.
My bin has not been emptied – what do I do?
Eastleigh Borough Council work really hard to ensure that your bins are collected. If there is an operational issue with the collection the crew will return as soon as is possible to try again.
If you have individual bins at your property please check your bin to see if you have a hanger left on your bin telling you why it has not collected. If you do not have a hanger or would like to contact us please call us on 023 8068 8440 after 1.30pm on your day of collection.

Additional Waste Capacity
Bin capacity is allocated on the number of occupants.
All waste bins must be identified with the property number to ensure only authorised bins are collected. Unauthorised bins or properties with excessive numbers of bins will be recorded by the waste collection crews and reported to the Direct Services Unit. Residents will be contacted and advised of our policy, provided with advice on how to minimise waste and maximise recycling. In cases of excessive capacity, bins will not be emptied and may be removed.
