We invite the North Stoneham community to learn more about their local nature and wildlife, and to help look after what's immediately around them - you would be surprised the closer you look!
Local community groups and wildlife organisations will be visiting North Stoneham to give talks and run free activities that showcase wildlife in the local area.
All events are free and encourage the discovery and exploration of birds, bugs, bats and plants in and around North Stoneham!
Sunday 6 August - 2pm to 4pm
Trail launch event (FREE activity) - 2pm to 4pm
North Stoneham Community Group are launching a free trail exploring North Stoneham Park, download the free app Actionbound, or collect a printed map from the YMCA. The trail includes points of interest across the park, including sites on historical importance
Bird Feeders (FREE activity) - 2pm to 4pm
Come along and make a bird feeder to support the wild birds in your garden or neighbourhood.
Jumble Sale and Uniform Exchange - 2pm to 4pm
Join Sustainable Stoneham for a school uniform exchange and 50p an item jumble sale. More information
Monday 7 August
Health Walk (FREE activity) - 10.30am to 12 noon
Join us on the weekly health walk at North Stoneham. Be at the Community Centre by 10.30am with suitable footwear for a 2-3 miles walk that lasts approximately an hour. The group meets at YMCA Eastleigh, (parking is available, but registration is required at the café).
Minibeasts art workshop (FREE activity) - 1pm to 3pm
Join Veronica from Home Ed Creatives for a children’s art and craft workshop in the park; activities include, origami and painting.
Tuesday 8 August
North Stoneham Community Group Trail event (FREE activity) - 12 noon to 3pm
North Stoneham Community Group are launching a free trail exploring North Stoneham Park, download the free app Actionbound, or collect a printed map from the YMCA. The trail includes points of interest across the park, including sites of historical importance.
Wednesday 9 August
Bat Walk (FREE activity) - 8pm to 9.30pm
Join a guided walk around the North Stoneham Park with a member of Hampshire Bat Group. The evening starts with an informative talk about these fascinating mammals, followed by a walk with detectors to discover what species inhabit the park.
The walk will last for an hour and half and cover 3km. Attendees will need to walk to this event, as parking is not available.

Thursday 10 August
Woodland Trust Talk (FREE activity) - 11am to 12 noon
Ben from the Woodland Trust will giving a free talk about the importance of woodland in the UK and ancient trees at North Stoneham Park. Parking is available, but registration is required at the café.
Friday 11 August
Bug Hunting (FREE activity) -12 noon to 2pm
Join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust to explore the long grass at North Stoneham Park and hunt for bugs using a sweep net. There will also be a range of craft activities.
Saturday 12 August
Litter pick - 11am to 12 noon
Join North Stoneham Community Group volunteers to litter pick North Stoneham Park to tidy the wildlife areas. Meet outside the YMCA
Bug houses (FREE activity) - 11am to 12 noon
Come along and make a bug houses to support the insects in your garden or neighbourhood. Everyone is welcome to come along.
Landscape drawing (FREE activity) - 1pm to 2pm
Join Veronica from Home Ed Creatives for an adult art class on landscapes on park; sit in the park and take in the landscape designed by Capability Brown. This workshop is suitable for beginners. Meet Veronica outside the YMCA.
Sunday 13 August
Avenue Park Conservation (FREE activity) - 10.30am to 11.30am
Join volunteers to look after Avenue Park to improve the space for the benefit of the local wildlife and the local community. Closed toe shoes must be worn. Please meet at the War Shrine, Chestnut Avenue. This activity is for over 18's only and is not suitable for children or dogs.
