Flower beds maintained by Grantham Green Growers

Eastleigh Borough Council is working in partnership with Romsey Mencap to provide the opportunity to maintain the ornamental flower and shrub beds on Grantham Green.

Grantham Green Growers’ club, are a newly formed club by Romsey Mencap made up of people with learning difficulties and local residents.  Led by professional horticulturalist Maria Dowding they have the opportunity to look after the new ornamental flower and shrub beds. They will meet fortnightly in the summer and  monthly in the winter one day a week.

Grantham Green Growers was set up by Eastleigh Borough and Romsey MENCAP to encourage more local people and those with learning disabilities to use and value the park.

Elaine Fish, Chair of Eastleigh Borough and Romsey MENCAP said; “We are delighted with this chance for our members to work in a team with local residents maintaining the beautiful shrubs for everyone’s enjoyment”.

Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee Cllr Steve Sollitt said; “It’s fantastic to see members of Romsey Mencap looking after the shrub beds. I’m looking forward to seeing the shrub beds on Grantham Green develop in the future for local people to enjoy.”  

The group would welcome new members with or without gardening knowledge, who are free on alternate Friday Mornings between 10 and 12 noon for light outdoor work, equipment is provided.
