Children and young people aged between 8 and 16 years will get the chance to try an exciting range of sports and activities this summer as part of the Council's hugely popular Park Sport programme.
Now in its 13th year, Park Sport 2017 will take place at over 25 local parks and community facilities across the Borough. Over 300 bookable sessions will be provided in this year’s scheme in sports including baseball, basketball, cricket, cycling, dance, fishing, football, golf, martial arts, netball, sailing and yoga. And this year, because of growing demand, more tennis sessions will be available thanks to support from the Lawn Tennis Association.
The scheme, that provides heavily subsidised activities at just £1 (booking fee) per session, is made possible thanks to ongoing support from VIVID Homes (formerly First Wessex), Eastleigh Borough Local Area Committees, and Parish and Town Councils.
In addition to these bookable sessions, there will be five free Skate Jam events run by Team Extreme, and free swimming sessions for under 16’s at Fleming Park Leisure Centre, Wildern Leisure Centre and Hamble Sports Complex. All sessions are delivered by the best local clubs and coaches in the area, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to carry on the sport after the summer is over.
Cabinet Lead for Wellbeing, Cllr Alan Broadhurst, said: ”It’s great that Park Sport continues to be so popular. Our local young people can enjoy a diverse programme of activities and I would encourage parents to sign their children up to sessions as soon as possible and not miss out on this great opportunity.”
Park Sport will run from Monday 31 July to Friday 1 September, and bookings go live on Tuesday 27 June.
