Local residents can enjoy their very own ‘Springwatch’ as a pair of Blue tits have ‘set up residence‘ in a nest box at Itchen Valley Country Park, West End.

The nest box has been fitted with a webcam so viewers can follow the developments in the nest box over the next few weeks as the pair rear their young. The birds are set to become ‘internet’ stars as local people log on to follow the ‘action’ on the Council’s web link.

Visitor Services Manager Rachel Odell says “Spring is a really exciting time with birds nesting throughout the park. We’re thrilled that Blue tits have nested in one of our birdcam nestboxes so local people can follow the action online and see if they can spot how many eggs have been laid.”

She added “The eggs are still being incubated and all being well we hope to see the young birds hatch soon and fledge the nest in early June.  This is a great time of year to visit the Itchen Valley Country Park and enjoy a lovely spring walk and you can also pop into the visitor centre for a cup of tea and catch up with the latest developments in the nest box.”
