Eastleigh Borough Council has won the South East Council of the year award at the Regional Energy Efficiency Awards.
The award recognises the Council’s hard work and dedication in making a success of the Green Deal Community Fund in the Borough. In particular, the project included a partnership between the Council and Insulated homes to provide insulation for mobile park homes.
The Council provided funding to help insulate 69 park homes across the borough that is almost 20% of the park homes in the borough. The External Wall Insulation (EWI) provides a ‘skin’ on the outside of the park home that is then rendered and painted. EWI on a park home provides insulation which requires less heating and reduces heating bills but there are additional benefits including:
- some of the homes suffered from damp prior to installation.
- heating their homes properly and more evenly helps improves health
- helps reduce noise
- a more comfortable home helps improve the general wellbeing of the residents.
The Council’s Sustainability Officer Giles Gooding said, “We are delighted to have won this award that recognises all our work in helping to insulate park homes across the borough. We haven’t been able to insulate Park homes until now and this work will help to keep the occupants warmer and save them money.”
