Borough sportspeople recognised in county wide awards

Five local sports people together with an inclusive sporting activity have been shortlisted in  the brand new Energise Me Awards 2017

With over 220 nominations across 11 categories this year  the borough will be well represented at the awards that recognise a mix of athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, teams and clubs across the county. The Energise Me Awards, is the only county-wide event to publicly reward and recognise the commitment, performance and excellence across all sports and physical activity. 

The borough’s nominees are:                                                 

Derik Brooks (Football) for Services to Sport

Cycles For All (Inclusive cycling) for Making a Difference

Colin Miles (Football) for Coach of the Year  

David Smith (Boccia) for Senior Sportsperson                          

Serena Vincent (Athletics) for Junior Sportsperson

Jenny Warner (Strongwoman) for Outstanding Achievement

Cabinet Lead for Wellbeing Cllr Alan Broadhurst: “It’s fantastic to see so many sports people and activities in the borough being recognised at a county wide level. I wish them every success at the awards evening.”

Winners will be announced at the ceremony on Thursday 30 March at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton where the guest speaker will be BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award 2016 winner, Ben Smith.
