Local people are being asked to vote and support a scheme to help new mothers get healthy and active through cycling. The planned ‘Active Mum and Baby Cycling project’ has been shortlisted for the Aviva Community Fund as part of an initiative by Eastleigh Borough Council's SportWorks team in partnership with Eastleigh Youth & Community Trust that will offer weekly leisurely led cycle rides starting from Pavilion on the Park in Eastleigh.
The cycle rides will be aimed at mums with babies/toddlers, aged from 6 months to 3 or 4 years old and are designed to be ‘hassle-free’ with bicycles, helmets and trailers all being provided.
In order to secure funding, the project must secure as many public votes as possible in order to be become a finalist. All finalists will then be reviewed by an independent judging panel.
This proposed project aims to help increase the number of women in Eastleigh regularly participating in cycling, whilst also having a positive impact on the women’s physical, emotional and social well-being.
The project will also allow new mothers to build their confidence when returning to exercise, socialise with fellow new mums and do away with the added pressure of sourcing childcare.
Cabinet Lead for Leisure Cllr Alan Broadhurst said, “This would be another great project to help new mums get active and I encourage all local people to vote for this project to help it become a finalist and get a step nearer securing funding.”
Voting opens to the public on Friday 21st October. Anyone who lives in the UK and registers on the Aviva Community Fund website can vote for projects between 21 October and 18 November 2016 visit https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk/voting/project/view/16-996
The Active Mum & Baby scheme is one of two bids to the Aviva Community Fund from within the borough. The other is for a rock climbing feature on Grantham Green.
