Local children are set to benefit from the installation of a new football/basketball facility at Somers Way, Eastleigh.

The new facility provides a combination goal and basketball unit including 200 square metres of ‘Technix’ grass protection mats in front of the football goal and a 9 metre x 9 metre tarmac pad with associated line markings in front of the basketball hoop.

The new equipment, that cost around £21,000, was funded from financial contributions from the developers of the South Street housing scheme.

Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee Cllr Paul Bicknell said, “We are delighted to invest in new facilities for this area. This new equipment will provide local children in the area with the opportunity to enjoy football and basketball and also encourage them to keep active.”

The new facility was installed as part of works carried out by Safe and Sound Playgrounds Ltd.
