Local people will soon be able to join a new sitting volleyball club which is being launched in January 2017 by Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks team, together with Volleyball England and Youth Options.
The new community club will be based at the Hub in Bishopstoke and will welcome participants of all abilities aged 16 and over.
Cabinet Lead for Leisure Cllr Alan Broadhurst said, “This is a great new sport for local people to enjoy. Sitting volleyball offers players many benefits; it is fun, social and challenging and is one of the very few sports that bring together disabled and able-bodied participants, making it truly inclusive. I would encourage local people to have a go.”
Apart from slight differences in court size, standing and sitting volleyball are both similar in terms of the overall aim of the game.
Eastleigh Borough Council’s SportWorks team has provided funding to support with the initial set up costs, including the purchase of equipment and coaching. The sessions will be delivered by Richard Osbourne, who coached the Georgian Sitting Volleyball team to the semi-final of the inaugural Invictus Games in 2014.
The club sessions will take place from 6pm-7pm for just £3 pay as you go and prior booking is not required. For more information about the club please email email@example.com
