Borough ‘makes’ a new Mayor

Councillor Des Scott was invested as the Borough of Eastleigh’s First Citizen at the annual Mayor Making ceremony at The King's Community Church, Hedge End.

Mayor of Eastleigh Councillor Des Scott said “I’m very excited about my Mayoral year especially promoting so many good things that the borough has  to offer."  He added “I’m really looking forward to having the chance to meet local residents, organisations and businesses that make up this great borough and I’m also looking forward to promoting and supporting my nominated charities.“

Des was elected to the Borough Council in 2010 representing Fair Oak & Horton Heath ward and has served on Fair Oak Parish/Town Council for the past 9 years.

Des is a keen golfer and enjoys skiing and cycling. Des also undertakes a lot of fund raising for local good causes such as Eastleigh Young Carers and Naomi House.

A builder by trade he built his first house in 1974 at the age of 25. Over the years Des has built over 100 houses across the borough and is still building houses today.

Originally from Sheffield, Des moved to Southampton in 1969 and then moved to the borough at Chandler’s Ford in 1976 before moving to Fair Oak in 1987.

Des met his wife Ve in 1966 and they married in 1970. They have two children who also both live locally in Fair Oak.

Councillor Mrs Maureen Sollitt  who represents Eastleigh North ward was invested as Deputy Mayor for the year.
