Death announced of long standing Councillor

It is with great sadness that the Council announces the death of Cllr. Roger Smith. 

Roger Smith was first elected to the Borough Council, to represent Fair Oak and Horton Heath, from 1991 until 1995 and since 2002.  He was also a member of Fair Oak and Horton Heath Parish Council for 29 years serving since 1987. 

He served as Mayor of the Borough in 2007-2008 supporting Naomi House and Liberty Child charities for his charity appeal.  He also served as Cabinet Lead for Communities  and also as Chair of Bishopstoke, Fair Oak and Horton Heath Local Area Committee. He also helped with the formation of Horton Heath Community Association. 

Council Leader Keith House said “We are all deeply saddened by the news that Roger has passed away. He was highly respected and a great servant to the residents of the Borough of Eastleigh.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time.” 

The funeral will be held on Thursday 15th September at 1pm at St Thomas’s Church, Fair Oak Court, Fair Oak and all are welcome to attend the service.
