Olympic Gold medal cyclist Dani King from Hamble returned to the borough to officially launch a new Breeze cycle ride to inspire more women to cycle.

The London 2012 champion’s visit to Fleming Park Leisure Centre was arranged in partnership with Hampshire County Council, to help launch a new monthly Breeze ride being hosted by the Council’s HealthWorks team.

Breeze is a national initiative developed by British Cycling to encourage more women to get cycling and develop confidence on their bike, in a friendly and sociable environment. A number of local women enjoyed a leisurely paced six mile cycle ride led by Dani King and qualified Breeze Ride leaders from the HealthWorks team, followed by a Q&A session with Dani at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.

Dani King MBE said: "I'd encourage all women thinking of getting back on their bikes, looking for like-minded women to cycle with, or wanting to find new cycle routes, to get involved with Breeze and give it a go."

Cabinet Lead for Leisure, Cllr Alan Broadhurst said, “This is a great initiative to help encourage more women to enjoy cycling and with the support of the Council’s HealthWorks team I’m sure it will be a great success.”

Eastleigh Borough Council’s HealthWorks team will be hosting monthly 1 hour easy paced cycle rides covering 5-6 miles.  These are aimed at beginners or those who have not cycled for a while.  The next cycle ride is taking place on Monday 17 October at 10.30am - meet at the cycle shelter at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.
