Thousands book summer activities

Over 3000 sporting sessions were booked within just 24 hours following the launch of the Council’s Park Sport and Summer of Sport activity programmes.

The Council website was overwhelmed with local parents booking their children and adults booking themselves onto an exciting range of activities.

Already Park Sport golf sessions are fully booked and there are also only a handful of places left on the sailing and fishing sessions. Not surprisingly at this time of year the tennis sessions for children are going fast.

The Council’s new Summer of Sport programme for adults is also proving really popular especially for golf and some archery and sailing sessions are already fully booked. With Wimbledon currently well underway why not be inspired to take up tennis?.

Bookings can now be made online on the Council’s MyEastleigh website page and there are hundreds of sessions to chose from.

Now in its eleventh year, Park Sport offers a range of sessions including basketball, cricket, dance, sailing, volleyball, tennis together with skate jams and free swimming sessions for children between 8-16 years old.

This year the Council is also offering a Summer of Sport programme for people aged 16 years and over. Supported by Sport England, the scheme aims to get adults fit and active with a range of activities including boxing to bowls, golf to volleyball and sailing to strictly come dancing.

Cabinet Lead for Lesiure Cllr Alan Broadhurst said: ”Having provided Park Sport for youngsters for the last 10 years we are now delighted to be able to offer a more diverse programme of activities for adults in the borough to enjoy. It’s never too late to take up something new, so I encourage people to make the most of this amazing opportunity.”

Park Sport and Summer of Sport run for five weeks from 27 July to 28 August –bookings are now open.

Organised by Eastleigh Borough Council, Park Sport is sponsored by CooperVision and First Wessex, and Sport England are supporting Summer of Sport.
