FPLC Plans Approved

Eastleigh Local Area Committee recently approved plans to modernise Fleming Park Leisure Centre in Eastleigh. The committee resolved to permit the application subject to receipt of ecological surveys and a legal agreement to secure public art and a transport plan.

Following extensive consultation with the community plans were brought to forward to create a new modern facility that will include a larger main pool, (six lanes to eight), a larger learner pool, expanded and improved gym facilities, improved café/restaurant and to maintain free car parking.

The new building will have a similar ‘footprint’ to the current leisure complex but the new design makes much more efficient use of space resulting in bigger and better facilities than before.

It is proposed that the project will build a new centre alongside the current building which will continue to operate during the construction period with customers able to continue to use the centre in the normal way.

Chair of Eastleigh Local Area Committee, Cllr Paul Bicknell said: “This is an exciting scheme that will help deliver a first class centre providing the very best facilities that the leisure industry has to offer for local people to enjoy and to help boost visitor numbers.”
