Working in partnership with the Ageas Bowl

The redevelopment of the Ageas Bowl site is an exciting venture between the Ageas Bowl and Eastleigh Borough Council to create a fantastic new visitor attraction in the heart of the borough.

The Council's investment in this world class cricket venue includes using local employees and creating new jobs, to build a new 175 bedroom 4* Hilton Hotel and spa, conference facility, media centre and 18 hole golf course.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Keith House, said: “It’s a very important project for the whole borough. As well as creating jobs for local people and opportunities for local business it gives the Council significant new rental income to help protect vital local services and keep council tax down."

“We’re also committed to making sure that people across the borough benefit from this partnership through the chance both to watch and take part in sport.  The prestigious world class venue will also help to keep Eastleigh on the international sporting map.”

Local jobs and the local economy
Our investment has come about because we believe in the wider economic benefits and opportunity for job creation this project will bring; both during and after the redevelopment of the Ageas Bowl site. The project will also boost visitor numbers and spending across the area and give us the opportunity to secure a new income stream which can be used to protect vital council services.

Before making our decision to invest, we commissioned an independent study to analyse the economic impact of the scheme. More information on Professor Wanhill's study is available here

Job creation
Our investment in the Ageas Bowl is already reaping some very positive benefits. During hotel construction a wide range of local contractors have been employed.

Hampshire Cricket Community Trust
AgeashcccommunitytrustlogoAs well as investing in the redevelopment of the Ageas Bowl site, we are also working closely with Hampshire Cricket and the Ageas Bowl in an exciting new partnership - the Hampshire Cricket Community Trust.

The Trust aims to promote and support sporting activities and opportunities for local people across the borough and ensure the Ageas Bowl widens its appeal and engagement with the community.

Hampshire Cricket Community Trust was officially launched at the Eastleigh Sports Awards held at the Ageas Bowl back in February, and one of the first clubs to benefit from Trust investment and support is the Poseidon Amateur Boxing Club.

A start-up grant of £25,000 was provided by the Council so that the club could set up home in a converted void on the first floor of the Ageas Bowl’s Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie stand.

Update
The Trust is gearing up to open a new study centre shortly. One of a number of projects established by the trust, it is designed to promote health, education, employment, sporting and leisure opportunities in the county and surrounding area, as well as increase the Ageas Bowl’s links with the community.

The centre will open daily and offer an array of projects for people of all ages ranging from business and enterprise programmes to opportunities for the elderly, as well as extensive employment programme for the homeless, disabled and other vulnerable groups.
