Original Champions
Meet the Eastleigh women who continue to inspire us to get up and get active - our six strong and fabulous original champions who are here to share their inspirational stories:
Inderjeet
"This is my squad!"
Inderjeet found her passion with weekly Health Walks. Regular walking has improved her flexibility and opened up a new circle of friends.
SJ
"I'm acting my age."
Taking part in weekly Low Level Circuits at Place Leisure Eastleigh has got SJ moving. Working out to "old school" tunes, with other like-minded fun-loving class members, has kept up her enthusiasm and kept her going back for more.
Aimee (and Percy)
"My body made my baby now let's see what else it can do."
New mum Aimee has pushed past all excuses and enrolled in regular Mum and Baby classes at Places Leisure Eastleigh. Not only has her fitness improved but also meeting other new mums has boosted Aimee's confidence.
Sarah
"I'm lapping everyone on the couch!"
After a pledge to get more active, Sarah joined our New Year New You Couch to 5k programme - and has not looked back. Before joining the programme, she had never run before, now one foot in front of the other, the 42-year-old is hopeful to, one day, run her first marathon.
Clare
"A wiggle and a giggle..."
Weekly Walking Netball sessions have given self-employed illustrator Clare boundless energy as well as a bundle of laughs. She has a new lease of life along with a new group of friends - which for someone who works from home is a bonus.
Christine
"I lift weights, deal with it!"
Hiding underneath a hoodie, wracked with nerves and apprehension Christine was a very different person a year ago. Taking up weightlifting has not only changed Christine's shape but also shaped her life. Lifting weights has shown Christine what inner strength really is.
Sarah BP
"There is no magic wand"
At the beginning of the year Sarah was too self-conscious about her weight to enter a gym. Now she's training three times' a week and has shed an incredible five and a half stone. She has even formed a Facebook group - This Fat Girl Can - encouraging everyone to follow her lead and get fit and active.
Vicky
"Don't be scared. You'll never reach your potential unless you move out of your comfort zone to see what you can actually achieve."
An advert for walking netball at Hamble Leisure Centre was the lifeline she needed. Almost a year on and Vicky feels like her old self, the woman she was before cancer. Her fitness levels have improved and she has regained her confidence.
