Health Works Exercise Referral Scheme

What is it?

Healthworks is a 12 week physical activity referral scheme designed to provide opportunities for people to improve their health and become more active. The scheme, based at Fleming Park Leisure Centre, is an NHS - endorsed Accredited Scheme at Silver Level. This means the scheme is a Recognised Scheme of Excellence providing a high quality of service.

How does it work?

Following an assessment from their GP/Healthcare Professional, patients are given a Referral for Physical Activity where they are offered a FREE consultation with a member of the Health Works team.  After this consultation a personal exercise programme is designed according to the individual. Support is provided on the scheme by regular reassessments and encouragement.

Who is it for?

You can access the scheme if you: are aged 16 or over; sedentary;  at risk of coronary heart disease, or have a medical condition that would benefit from an increase in physical activity (cancer, cardiac, pulmonary, mental health, neurological, post op)

What Activities are available?

Patients are offered a reduced rate on activities including swimming, aquatherapy, gym sessions and cardiac rehabilitation, as well as the group exercise classes and Health Walks detailed below.

Walking FootballWalking Football Flyer Image S

Walking Football is a 5 a-side version of the game specifically for over 50's, with one major rule change, no running! This helps reduce strain on joints and reduce the risk of injury - providing players the chance to get back playing the game they love when they thought their playing days were over! Many individuals have not only benefited from the social and competitive elements of playing, but have had huge health benefits as a result as well. There are 4 licensed Walking Football clubs currently set up in Eastleigh.

Cancer Rehab

Healthworks have staff who are trained in cancer rehabilitation. Physical activity after cancer treatment can help to reduce the impact of: Swelling around the arm; Anxiety; Depression; Fatigue; Impaired mobility; Weight changes. HealthWorks run activity sessions which are suitable for all types of cancer.

It is low intensity, low impact, easily sustainable and easy to do. All you need is a good pair of shoes, suitable clothing for the weather and enthusiasm!

We warmly welcome you to come along and join in with this great form of exercise, which is healthy, fun and free. Each walk lasts approximately 1 hour with a distance of 3 miles covered. Some walks may have fast and slow walking groups.

Regular brisk walking can help prevent Heart disease, Stroke, Osteoporosis, High blood pressure, Obesity and Diabetes. All walk leaders are volunteers who help us help the local community improve their health, fitness & well being.
