The Berry Theatre
The Berry Theatre in Hedge End is a state-of-the-art performance space and a cultural hub for the local community which presents inspirational work for children and families.
The new purpose-built venue was opened in 2011 by actor and director Samuel West and offers a programme of theatre, film, comedy, community events and family shows. The team at The Berry Theatre hand-pick the very best productions from across the UK and bring them to audiences in Hedge End. There is also a multi-arts participation programme at the venue that engages people of all ages and abilities.
The team at The Berry Theatre believe that art is not something that you just watch, it is something that you do. The venue provides opportunities for people to work collaboratively with a professional creative team and offers a wide range of creative courses and workshops. The venue is home to The Berry Youth Theatre as well as the Live Wires and The Writers' Room groups for aspiring playwrights.
Inspired by Hedge End’s heritage the theatre’s name celebrates the areas fruit growing past as the strawberry picking capital of southern England. The name was suggested by local resident, Mrs Sheila Perry, after the opportunity to name the theatre was opened to the public in 2010.
