Public Art for Boorley Green

Give us your ideas at our community consultation event

The Boorley Green Public Art project

We’d love to hear your ideas as we start the public art project at Boorley Green

The developers at Boorley Green are contributing funds to public art works

This consultation aims to:
-   Show residents what the layout of the developments within Boorley Green will look like when it is complete
-   Get your ideas on themes for the project
-   Get your ideas on public artworks and where they will go
-   Provide an opportunity for project managers to meet residents to discuss the scheme

What we are trying to achieve
We have around £300,000 to spend on the public art, subject to final approval. This may sound like a lot, but public art is most often located outside,  exposed to all weathers and subject to damage. So that it doesn’t incur costs in the future it should have minimal maintenance requirements. With this kind of budget we should be able to deliver something really worthwhile.

This is the start of a long term project because, while many new residents have moved in, the final financial contribution from developers isn’t due until 2027 - but that doesn’t mean that we can’t deliver some elements before then.

Possible themes
Possible themes for the public art might include:

Connecting with nature
The story of the landscape. Local plants and flowers, birds and animals (such as dormice and badgers)

Local history

Do you like the idea of a less traditional public art project?
A non-traditional piece of public art, like a dance event or other performance art, could involve local children and adults.

Thank you to all those residents who came to see us at the Peartree Inn Saturday 20 October.

Please email mark.ellison@eastleigh.gov.uk with your responses to the questions in the consultation document by Sunday 18 November 2018. Please include your name and postal address in the email. Thank you.
