Lindy Hop
Tuesday evenings, 8pm at the Hilt.
Lindy Hop is a jazz partner dance which originally developed in the 1920's in Harlem, New York, from other dances such as Charleston and Break-Away. During the 40's it was more commonly known as Jitterbug and later aspects were used to create such dances as Rock & Roll, West Coast Swing and Modern Jive. Lindy Hop is a fun and expressive dance, just like the jazz and swing music it is danced to. It can be danced at a variety of tempos and energies, making it suitable for people of all ages and walks of life. We are always pleased to see new faces each week, and you don't need a partner or any previous dance experience, so please drop by and join us or just come by to have a look!

Southampton University Players (SUP)
A community amateur dramatic society based at the University of Southampton. Membership is open to people of all ages from the local community, including current and past university staff. We put on two major productions at the Nuffield Theatre as well as one act play evenings, studio and children’s outdoor productions. In addition we regularly participate in local drama festivals. As well as our theatrical productions we plan social events including theatre trips, play readings and quiz nights as well as offering members the chance to attend workshops to learn backstage skills.

Why not join us? We are a small and very friendly society, with a real team spirit and are always looking to welcome new members. Whether you would like to act, direct, stage manage, make costumes, find props or simply join us for play readings, we would love to hear from you. We welcome the experienced and also those with no or limited experience but are keen to learn. You will receive all the support and encouragement you need.

Our rehearsals take place on the University’s main campus in Southampton. For a major production we rehearse twice a week (usually on a Tuesday and Thursday evenings) with a few Sunday rehearsals in the weeks immediately prior to a show. Rehearsals for smaller productions and festivals take place as times agreed between director and cast.
