A summer programme giving Eastleigh Borough’s eight to 16 year-olds a chance to try out a range of sports and activities runs from 29 July to 23 August.
Park Sport 2019, organised by the Council’s SportWorks team, takes place at 15 venues across the Borough. The programme offers a heavily subsidised programme, at just £1 booking fee per child per session, and includes sailing, dance, fishing, squash and more.
Now in its 15th year, Park Sport is funded by the Local Area Committees and Parish and Town Councils, and activities are held at community facilities across Eastleigh Borough. Park Sport 2019 is sponsored by Hillcrest Structural Ltd and the sailing activities are sponsored by BP Oil Ltd.
To mark the 15 year anniversary of Park Sport, two new one-day festivals, offering activities for all the family, will take place at Places Leisure Eastleigh on Saturday 3 August and Hamble Sports Complex on Saturday 17 August (costing £1 booking fee per person per session). The festivals will include never before seen Park Sport activities, including trampolining, pan-disability football, freestyle gymnastics, teen gym, plus sessions for families and parents.
In addition to the bookable sessions, there will be two free Skate Jam events run by professionals from Team Extreme, as well as free swimming for under-16s at Places Leisure Eastleigh, Wildern Leisure Centre and Hamble Sports Complex.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Health, Councillor Tonia Craig, said: “Now in its 15th year, Park Sport is getting better and better. As part of our aim of promoting health and fitness in the Borough, the Council is keen to give young people a chance to try out new sports and activities and make participation as accessible as possible - that's why sessions are so heavily subsidised. I want to congratulate our SportWorks team for delivering such a packed and exciting programme that really does offer something for everyone.”
Bookings will go live on a staggered schedule from Monday 8 July at 10am each day. Residents making bookings must have a My Eastleigh account with the Council, which can be set up in advance, in order to complete a booking.
