The Government has recently announced the introduction of grants to support Business Rate payers that occupy non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym premises. This new support scheme called the Restart Grant, will take the form of a one-off grant funding scheme in the Financial Year 2021-2022.
The main purpose of the Restart Grant scheme is to support businesses in the relevant sectors that offer in-person services, where most service provision and activity takes place in a fixed rate-paying premises.
We had promised that all future payments would be automatic, however, the Treasury guidelines for these new grants have introduced a new eligibility criteria and we see no alternative but to ask businesses to complete a new specifically designed form. Eligible businesses will be paid up to £6,000 in the non-essential retail sector and a one-off grant of up to £18,000 in the hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym sectors.
Before you apply, please ensure that you are rated for business rates payment.
You will also need to have the following to hand:
- business rates reference number
- Company Number (registered with Companies House), VAT Number or Charity Number
- a copy of a bank statement that can be uploaded to your application.
Details of the full eligibility criteria and application form can be found here.
