Looking for something egg-citing to do with the family this Easter? Eastleigh Borough Council’s award-winning Itchen Valley Country Park is bursting with special Easter-themed activities and events for all ages.
Set in 440 acres of beautiful water meadows, woodland and meadows Itchen Valley Country Park is the perfect destination to escape to over the Easter holidays. As well as enjoying the bucolic setting there’s a host of themed activities to explore from Spring willow wreath making and Easter egg trails to storytelling workshops and forest school den building adventures.
Follow the egg trail through the woods, solve the Easter-themed clues, and claim your chocolatey prize in the Country Park’s Easter Egg Trail. Friday, 30 March to Sunday, 15 April from 10.30am to 4pm. £2 per person.
Spring is a time for new beginnings, to try your hand at new skills. Get crafty with a Spring Willow Wreath making workshop. Using natural materials including willow, leaves and flowers, create a bespoke door hanging or table decoration. Wednesday, 4 April, any time between 10.30am and 12noon. £3 per person.
Discover the fascinating world of our feather friends in Beautiful Birds, a special-themed session in which you will make a wooden bird and bird feeder. Try a spot of twitching, too, with the help of a dedicated RSPB team who will be on hand to answer any bird-related questions. Tuesday, 10 April, 11am to 12noon. NB. Get up close to a menagerie of furry and feathered friends when Mucky Bucket Mobile Farm pulls into the Park for a one-off petting farm experience. Meet alpacas, donkey, ducks and other creatures that go oink, squeak and squawk in this family-friendly event. Friday, 6 April, 10am to 3pm. Free event.
For the adventurous type Forest School, managed by Youth Options, will be running a series of outdoor activity days. Learn how to make a campfire, build a forest den and create woodland crafts in these special outdoor sessions, aimed at children from five to 10 years old and their families. Junior Forest School runs on Wednesday, 4 April, from 10am to 12noon and 1pm and 3pm; Friday, 6 April, 10am to 12noon; Tuesday, 10 April, 1pm to 3pm; and Thursday, 12 April, 10am to 12noon. £10 per child.
Little ones can let their imaginations run wild with Woodland Stories , a special Easter session for children aged two-plus and their parents, with activities, crafts and games themed around the books Here Comes T-Rex Cottontail and Rabbit’s Spring Adventure. Woodland Stories, also operated by Youth Options, runs on Tuesday, 3 April, Thursday, 5 April, Monday 9 April, and Friday 13 April, from 10.30am to 12noon; and on Wednesday, 11 April from 1pm to 2.30pm. £5 per child.
