Help prevent frozen garden waste
Tags:
Did you know that when temperatures fall below zero garden waste can freeze in your bin? The Council’s garden waste collection is currently being affected by frozen garden waste in some bins. Garden waste contains a lot of moisture which may freeze and become stuck in the bin, preventing emptying.
You can help by:
- loosening the materials inside the bin before presenting it for collection.
- not overfilling or over packing your bin - this compacts the garden waste particularly the materials at the bottom of the bin. The more compact it is, the more likely it is to freeze.
- keeping the lids closed to reduce moisture build up. If you are able to keep the garden bin in a garage or shed, this can also help prevent the waste freezing.
