Council Tax scam warning
Householders asked for bank details for bogus refund

Eastleigh Borough Council is issuing a warning about a Council Tax scam that has been reported to us by some residents.
We have been made aware that some householders in the Borough have received calls, texts or emails claiming that their property has been placed in the wrong Council Tax valuation band. They are then told that this entitles them to a refund and are asked for their banking details so that the money can be paid into their account.
These approaches are fraudulent and the Council would never contact residents in this way, nor would we ask for bank details over the phone or via email.
We are advising residents to hang up the phone, delete any email or text and report the scam to the Action Fraud line - www.actionfraud.police.uk, Facebook.com/actionfraud, Twitter @actionfrauduk.
