Residents are warned about a Council Tax banding scam by a company calling themselves National Tax Consultancy, who are calling residents about their council tax banding. They are then telling residents that this is wrong and if they pay £150 upfront, they can chase monies owed. They are also asking the resident for card and bank details so they can pay the rebate back to them. This company is acting in a fraudulent way.
Residents can challenge their council tax banding by contacting the Valuation Office Agency. However residents would never be contacted via an unsolicited cold call to challenge their Council Tax banding. If you are contacted by this company, do not provide any personal details and contact the Police immediately.
