Eastleigh Borough Council is supporting Empty Homes Week 2018 - Monday 15 October to Sunday 21 October
Empty Homes Week is a national opportunity to raise awareness of empty homes and also provide information so that people are aware of the help and advice that is available locally to tackle this issue.
Council Leader Keith House said, “We recognise that empty homes are a potential source of housing supply. We are prioritising, through our empty homes strategy, opportunities to bring empty properties back into use and also dealing with ‘problem’ properties.”
He added, “We also provide advice and financial assistance for local people to help address the condition of their properties if necessary.”
The Council will try and work with the owner of an empty property, helping them to bring the property back into use, whether for sale, to rent or to move into themselves. If it is apparent that an owner has no intention of bringing their property back into use we have a number of powers to bring the property back into use with the cost of any action passed back to the owner.
The Council is keen to provide owners of empty properties with any assistance, particularly around repair works. If you are the owner of an empty dwelling in the Borough and would like help to bring it back into use please visit https://www.eastleigh.gov.uk/housing/empty-homes
