Council announces a real term cut in its Council Tax for next five years
Eastleigh Borough Council has announced a real term cut in its Council Tax for the next five years providing its residents with an unrivalled record of 20 years of falling Council Tax in real terms.
Council Leader Keith House promised the real term cut of 1% below December’s published Consumer Price Index for Council Tax in 2019-20 and also promised this real term cut for the following four years.,
This year the average Eastleigh Borough Council element for a Band D household is only £129.52 or just under £2.50 per week. Less than an eighth of the total Council Tax bill for Eastleigh Borough residents goes to the Council.
Eastleigh Borough Council, Keith House, said, “Our Council Tax for this year represents a real terms cut for 16 years in a row and this will continue for another four years making two decades of real term cuts for our residents.”
He added, “We are committed to delivering high quality, value-for-money services whilst not increasing the Eastleigh Borough Council element of your Council Tax. We believe this to be an unequalled record and commitment anywhere in the country and we can do this without significant reductions in our frontline services. This has been achieved in large part, due to our excellent record of sound financial management and our nationally recognised programme of property investments.”
