Senior Planning Officer
Band 8 - £36,528 FTE
30 hours per week / 12 month FTC
Maternity Cover starting 11 May 2020

We are looking for a Senior Planning Officer to work as a case officer and as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing specialist Development Management advice to achieve high quality outcomes that contribute to the delivery of the Council’s Housing and Development strategy.
Professionally you will be challenged; however in return, you will have the opportunity to work on a range of residential and commercial major and minor applications for urban and countryside sites within a Borough which is planning for significant new development in line with an emerging Development Plan.
Experience of working in Development Management on a variety of applications in a timely manner, including some major sites is essential, as is experience of securing improvements to proposed schemes and negotiating S106 agreements. You will need to demonstrate that you can work positively and proactively with applicants, other professionals and the public to solve problems and deliver appropriate proposals.
You will also need to possess strong political awareness, excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to present at committees and represent the Council at appeals. An ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm, even when the pressure of workload is high, is essential.
You will have gained an Honours or Postgraduate Degree in Town Planning or equivalent, and have, or be working towards, membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.
