Do you want to make a real difference?
We are committed to making a positive difference for all the residents, businesses and visitors to Eastleigh and we are proud to be delivering on our promise to create sustainable and healthy communities and increase employment and wellbeing opportunities for all. We are also committed to fully devolving decisions to local communities and operate five successful local area committees who make a wide range of decisions covering areas such as planning, commissioning of council services and delivering local capital programmes.

Each local area is supported by a dedicated manager and due to work commitment we are now looking to recruit another Local Area Manager on a fixed term basis to cover the Chandler’s Ford, Bursledon, Hamble and Hound areas.

About the Role
In this pivotal role, working closely with Councillors, you will provide the strategic lead for local priorities within your designated area. You will also develop locality plans to ensure that service delivery, programmes and project delivery take account of the different needs and aspirations of the Borough’s communities. You will support the effective functioning of Local Area Committees (LAC) and Councillors in governing, developing and tackling the needs of their communities, ensuring local priorities are reflected in corporate plans and policies.

About You
You will be proactive, extremely well organised and politically astute, as well as having a strong strategic focus. With excellent communication skills and a proven ability to engage and develop productive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and in particular Councillors, you will be a skilled influencer and negotiator with the ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities and opinions.

You will also be adept at managing a programme of projects within a community facing role together with experience of using data and sound judgement to identify priorities and report on their progress. Good knowledge of Council services, governance and constitution is essential as is an understanding of the committee process.

There is a requirement to provide regular support to some evening committees and work outside normal office hours.
