Velmore Market Garden

The garden in Cox Row, Velmore has been reopened with support from First Wessex and Groundworks. It currently opens every Sunday and Tuesday from 10am to 1pm. All tools and seeds are provided and no experience is necessary. Each session is run by one of the local site champions always able to help and direct you. When a volunteer is keen to become a site champion they will undergo a programme of training to become confident and skilled champions who can then support new volunteers who want to take part in the programme.

All the produce is shared between the volunteers who have helped grow it. Excess crops will be sold locally for a very small fee to help cover operational costs or donated to local community groups/schemes so that everything goes back into the local area. It is hoped some of the produce will supply cooking classes to be held at the Cherry Tree Café.

Coordinator Chris Smith said “Velmore Market Garden is a fantastic local resources and we want to help support residents to learn how to grow their own fresh fruits and vegetables, meet new people and create an oasis of tranquillity in the very heart of Velmore.”
