In October 2015, Eastleigh Local Area Committee (ELAC) granted outline planning permission for a range of uses for the former Civic Offices and Magistrates Court sites on Leigh Road.
The potential uses identified in the outline application included a car dealership, commercial offices and fast food outlets. Whilst the range of uses was deemed appropriate for the site, we listened to the strength of public opinion against the provision of fast food outlets and reconsidered the proposals for the former Civic Offices site.
As developer, we will be submitting a planning application in late June for a new statement office building at the gateway to the town centre. Once submitted, all interested parties and members of the public will be able to provide any feedback as part of the planning process.
The site is allocated for development in the local plan and will provide an ideal location for additional employment land for new businesses with the creation of jobs and opportunities for local people.
We will retain ownership of the site, and the business premises will add to our property portfolio providing a significant rental income to the Council.
