Animal boarding licence
Any premises intended to be used to board cat or dogs or to run a day care for dogs needs a licence.
Under the Animal Boarding Establishment Act 1963 any premises intended to be used to board cat or dogs or to run a day care for dogs needs a licence and it is a criminal offence to operate without one.
There are currently a number of licensed boarding catteries and home boarders for dogs within the Borough.
Setting up a boarding establishment
Firstly contact our Planning department as you may need planning permission. You should also contact our Animal Welfare Officer to obtain a copy of the licence conditions and application form.
Your insurance company will be able to advise you on the type of insurance you may need to run a boarding establishment.
Home boarding for dogs and cats
Anybody boarding dogs in their own home must also have a licence. If you are going to board your dog or cat, make sure that you ask to see the home's licence.
