Renewal and re-licensing details
From 1 October 2014 any new vehicles presented to licensing shall be no more than seven years old from the date of first registration (taken from the V5). From 01 January 2022, any diesel vehicle to be newly licensed must be Euro 6.
Any new hackney carriage licences issued require the vehicle to be a wheelchair accessible vehicle & a vehicle being presented for initial licensing must be first registered with DVLA not more than 1 year old from date of application.
Renewals will follow this time scale:
- From 1 October 2014 no vehicle over the age of 15 years be licensed
- From 1 October 2015 no vehicle over the age of 14 years be licensed
- From 1 October 2016 no vehicle over the age of 13 years be licensed
- From 1 October 2017 no vehicle over the age of 12 years be licensed.
As long as the vehicle is under 12 years old when you renew your vehicle licence it can be re-licensed. For example if the vehicle is 11 years, four months old it can be re-licensed for one year as normal. When you come to re-licence when the vehicle is 12 years, four months you cannot re-licence the vehicle.
