Waste and Recycling From Flats
If you live in a flat or another property with a communal bin
area, you will have bins that can be used by everyone living in the
block.
There are
several steps you can take to ensure your bin store is kept clean
and safe:
- Ensure any bin bags are tied securely to prevent
smells, maggots and flies.
- Do not leave any waste on the ground. Our operatives
will not collect rubbish that isn't safely within the bin. If there
is any waste preventing the bins from being moved they will not be
emptied.
- Bin stores are for general household waste only.
Any white goods, furniture, garden waste etc should be taken to the
nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre.
It is equally important to use your recycling bin for the correct
materials only. If our collection vehicle contains too much
non-recyclable waste it will be rejected and diverted to landfill.
Our collection operatives check each bin and will reject it if
necessary.
Click HERE for a list of what can and cannot be
recycled.
Bins left behind due to contamination will incur a charge to
empty. Your management company or housing association may pass this
charge on to you.
If you believe that someone is using your bins who does not live
in your block, please inform your management company or housing
association to ask about having a combination padlock installed to
ensure only the correct residents have access.
Residents of each block are responsible for their own bin stores
and misuse of the bins can cause issues that affect everyone else
so please be courteous to you neighbours and ensure you put the
correct materials in the bins.
To find out what day your communal bins are emptied on, please
use our property search on the right.
Glass recycling

Flats also have access to our glass collection service. If your bin
store currently does not have a wheeled bin for glass recycling,
please contact our Support Services team by:

Reusable bags

Black sacks and carrier bags are often found to be contaminating
bins as they cannot be recycled. These bags, including the
contents, whether it is recyclable or not, will be sent to
landfill. Because of this, we are supplying every flat with a
reusable recycling bag. You can store your recyclables in the
bag and once full, empty the contents in the bin and
start filling it all over again!
If you live in a flat and haven't yet received a
reusable bag, please contact the Recycling Team on 023
8068 8440 or via email at recycling@eastleigh.gov.uk.
