B&Q Ecohome in Bishopstoke

Ecohome Refurbishment in Bishopstoke

B&Q has chosen Bishopstoke to buy and undertake an eco refurbishment of a 100 year old terraced house to demonstrate the level of energy (and money) savings that can be achieved with existing, practical and affordable measures, and how this can be done.

Energy savings of 68% have been achieved, while retaining, and even improving upon, the home's traditional look and comfort.  Visit B&Q's 22nd Century home webpage to read more about the process of refurbishing it, including videos of some of the work taking place, and the Superhomes website for a summary of measures, and information about how and when the home will be open to the public.

CarbonFREE

wasteful and green houseThe Council has set up a local carbon compensation scheme - the Carbon Fund for Reducing Emissions in Eastleigh and has contributed £60,000 per year  to compensate for its own carbon dioxide emissions from its main operations in 2010/2011 and 2011/ 2012.

In addition, our three main bus companies: First, Black Velvet and BlueStar have between them contributed more than £12,000 for works to be carried out to community buildings.  In the first phase of the project  the scheme saved almost 5000 tonnes of CO2 by insulating 192 homes, along with 3 community buildings.  The new phase of the scheme attracted over 200 applicants and will also insulate several large blocks of flats.  Visit the CarbonFREE page to find out more.   Funding for the scheme has been fully allocated at present.
