CarbonFREE - free insulation for local people

wasteful and green houseloft insulation scheme

The Carbon Fund for Reducing Emissions in Eastleigh
was established in 2008 to provide a way for Eastleigh Borough Council to compensate for the carbon dioxide emissions from its own main operations, after all feasible methods of reducing these emissions were carried out.  The Fund is also open to local businesses, community groups and residents who wish to make contributions to the Fund to support local action on climate change, and to help their local community.

In its first year the Fund was responsible for insulating 192 homes of Eastleigh Borough residents, resulting in the saving of almost 5,000 tonnes of CO2 (approximate and over 40 years).  You can read more about this in the Carbon Compensation Policy Paper 2007 [doc].

CarbonFREE Efergy Elite monitor - Applications no longer being accepted.

For the moment, applications are no longer being accepted as the fund is fully allocated.

The CarbonFREE programme also offered a programme to help those participating additional energy savings.  On top of the free insulation, a home visit and energy assessment, including the free loan of a counter top electricity monitor, was undertaken.

If you would like to help compensate for your own emissions from a holiday flight or other energy use, please contribute to CarbonFREE. Under CarbonFREE we can offer to offset a tonne of CO2 for as little as £12.

Bus Companies Contribute to CarbonFREE

In 2009 the three main bus companies in Eastleigh:  BlueStar, Black Velvet and First, contributed between them nearly £6000 to CarbonFREE (pictured with Cllr David Airey).  First and Bluestar continue to make monthly contributions, and this will be used to help our community buildings to be more energy efficient.    Several community buildings are currently undergoing energy assessments, prior to applying for financial support from the Fund for insulation or renewable energy installations.  Watch this space for news!
