Grass, hedges and shrub beds

Grass cutting

StreetScene cuts grass on all County Council highway verges, Borough owned open spaces  and recreation grounds during the Spring and Summer (from March to the end of October). We aim to cut all the grass areas approximately every 12 working days. This is dependent on prevailing weather conditions.

The grass cuttings are not collected by our operatives but left on the surface. Our operatives will blow the grass off pavements and paths back on to the grassed areas within 2 working days.
Grass cuttings are collected from within and around children's play areas/equipment.

Grass areas maintained by Eastleigh Borough Council are cut to the following frequencies, depending on the weather:

Hedge cutting

Those hedges that are the responsibility of Eastleigh Borough Council (i.e. not privately owned) are maintained on an annual basis to retain their shape and size. The majority of this work is carried out during the autumn/winter period. No cutting is carried out during the birds nesting season unless there are safety concerns.

Shrub beds

A programme of scheduled autumn/winter shrub maintenance is shown in the table below. This work includes pruning & mulching,  removal of weeds, and litter clearance as required.  Outside of this period shrubs will be cut back if there is a safety issue.
