Recycling News
Your Recycling Team Needs You!
We would like to start off by saying a huge thank you for
helping Eastleigh remain one of the top recycling authorities in
the Country. From all of the waste produced from over 51,000 homes
in the borough, we currently recycle an amazing 47%!
But we cannot stop there! There are still thousands of tonnes of
recyclable material being wasted and if we continue to work
together we can reach 50% and even higher!
Do you make full use of each of our services?
- Your recycling bin - Do you
recycle all of your paper,
cardboard, plastic bottles,
tins and cans?
- Food
waste - Our weekly collection of food waste ensures
your leftovers don't go to waste.
- Glass
recycling - Save a trip to the bottle bank and use the
black box for your bottles and jars.
- Garden waste - Turn your grass,
leaves and twigs into a quality soil conditioner for only £25 per
year.
- Clothing/Textiles - Clothes out
of fashion? Raise money for charity by taking them to a
clothing bank.
- Aluminium
Foil - Recycle your aluminium foil/containers to help
raise money for the QE2 activity centre.
- Batteries - Leave your batteries
out with your glass collection box.
If every resident recycles everything possible our
recycling rate will continue to rise and we can all
be happy in the knowledge that we are helping to protect our
environment.
We are always trying to improve our services and finding
ways of recycling even more. If you have any ideas or suggestions
please contact us at recycling@eastleigh.gov.uk.
You can now recycle aerosol cans in your green bin!
Eastleigh residents can now recycle empty aerosols through their
kerbside recycling collection!

The designated waste contractor for Hampshire,
Veolia Environmental Services, have recently secured markets for
aerosols which means they can now be recycled along with food tins
and drink cans.
Empty aerosols cans such as deodorants, hair
sprays, air fresheners and furniture polish can all be accepted in
kerbside recycling collections as well as in can banks. Aerosols
for recycling must be empty with the
plastic lid removed and should not be
pierced or squashed.
Aerosols with orange hazard
symbols – including insecticides, oven cleaners, paints
and automotive sprays – are not accepted in
kerbside recycling collections and should be placed in normal
household waste bins for disposal.
