Fair Oak Landfill Study

Progress Update 27.5.11

Sampling of the monitoring wells has been ongoing for approximately 6 months. This is being carried out at approximately 2 weekly intervals, and is due to be completed by December 2011.  If you have any questions regarding the monitoring please contact us eh@eastleigh.gov.uk We will update any further changes on this webpage.

Since 1988, the Council has been monitoring for landfill gas in and around the Fair Oak area.  The Council has reviewed the current landfill gas sampling and now intends to extend the sampling area.  The leaflet provides details of the proposals for the extended monitoring together with information explaining the reasons for the expanded study and a Q+A section which covers common queries and concerns. The wells have been installed and monitoring is underway, please see progress update above.

The area of the study, and choice of monitoring locations  has been based on advice received from independent consultants and has taken into account the distribution of the old sandpits, local geology and the results from previous monitoring that has been undertaken.

A number of the sampling wells are to be located in the roadway in and around the streets comprising the residential areas of Stubbington Way and Michaels Way. We will provide prior notification of these works and updates of progress on this page. The contractors will keep disturbance to residents to a minimum and will only work during normal working hours. .The wells have been installed and monitoring is underway, please see progress update above

There are also two leaflets from the Health Proteciton Agency, HPA,  about landfill sites and landfill gas and potential health effects of exposure to landfill gas.

If you have any other questions or concerns not addressed above  please contact us.
